Facet & Cleavage Calculator
Prevent catastrophic gemstone shattering during processing. Select your raw ore specimen, evaluate internal fracture density, and calculate optimal blade downforce, RPM gear speed, and anti-shatter safety probabilities.
Shear stress within acceptable guild tolerance.
How Cleavage Planes Dictate Blade Selection
In Abyssal Lapidary, every rough ore specimen features distinct crystalline cleavage planes that respond differently to mechanical shear stress. Mineral specimens such as Pigeon's Blood Ruby and Cornflower Sapphire possess exceptional Mohs hardness (9.0) with rhombohedral or basal parting, resisting low-speed steel blades while demanding diamond-edged saw blades at Gear 4 rotation.
Conversely, Imperial Topaz (Mohs 8.0) exhibits perfect basal cleavage along the (001) plane. Striking or faceting parallel to this natural cleavage axis can shear the crystal cleanly in half, reducing its auction value to mere scrap.
Anomalous Ores & Cognitive Hazard Limits
When processing deep-strata minerals like Red Chromophage, Blue Chromophage, or Shrift Stone, each pass of your cutting chisel generates cognitive Awareness. Reaching the peak threshold of 100 triggers full Mind Overload, disabling tool operation until restored by resting or consuming tea.
